Fireworks may light up the sky in celebration, but for pets, they can spark fear, stress and even serious injury.
Our team at Trupanion found that more than 300 pets have been injured by fireworks around the 4th of July holiday.
“Fireworks can cause serious injuries. And the 4th of July can be a stressful time for pets, so pet owners should make sure their pet is safe inside the house and is surrounded by things that comfort them and calm them down,” said Trupanion Veterinarian Dr. Sarah Nold.
Fireworks Injuries on the 4th of July
In all, 315 pets have had a fireworks-related claim over the 4th of July holiday since 2020.
Below is a list of states that have had more than seven claims. Keep in mind that these numbers apply only to Trupanion protected pets. And because Trupanion protects around one million of the estimated 164 million cats and dogs in the U.S., the total number of pets injured by fireworks is likely significantly higher.
